In a 1997 study, the University of Florida found that poorly ventilated offices that used a lot of carbonless copy paper had high levels of VOCs in the air, while well-ventilated offices that used little such paper did not. The study also found higher rates of sick leave and illness complaints in offices that used a lot of carbonless copy paper. Another study, published in Environmental and Health Perspectives, linked occupational exposure to chronic paper dust and carbonless paper to an increased risk of asthma attacks in adults.
